A new three-story, 52,000SF Science and Technology Laboratory Building will be constructed on the campus of Richard Bland College off Johnson Road in Petersburg, Virginia to serve the growing student population. This new academic building features a strong connection to the existing campus’s student center, library and adjacent academic building by creating an adjacent enclosed outdoor quadrangle through it’s careful placement on the site. Natural daylight is carefully introduced into all instructional, faculty and staff spaces through the use of an atrium and transparent glazing systems along with sun shading devices. The use of indigenous exterior materials such as brick and cast stone panels will complement and link the new facility to it’s neighbors through contemporary detailing.
An industry leader in sustainable, high-performance design, Moseley Architects is assisting Richard Bland College in registering the project with the U.S. Green Building Council The project team will seek LEED Certification when completed, making this project the first LEED certified project on the college campus.
